Quality

Quality is the hallmark of Bhuwalka Castings. To assure the physical and chemical properties of every product, our Quality Control department runs a fully-equipped metallurgical laboratory — from precise chemistry and microstructure analysis to mechanical and non-destructive testing.

Chemical & metallurgical

  • 29-element Optical Emission Spectrometer — SPECTRO MAXx (Germany) for precise chemical composition of the metal.
  • Disc & micro polishing machine for preparation of spectro and micro specimens.
  • Metascope optical microscopy with photographic attachment and image analyzer.
  • Complete sand testing facilities for incoming and in-process sand.

Mechanical testing

  • Optical Brinell hardness testing machine.
  • Poldi hardness tester and Equotip-3.
  • Universal Testing Machine (UTM) with printer & PC graphs.
  • Izod impact testing machine.

Non-Destructive Testing

  • Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI).
  • Dye penetrant testing.
  • Ultrasonic testing for detection of surface, sub-surface and internal defects in castings.

Adaptive Thermal Analysis

Beyond spectrometry and standard sand, sieve and hardness testing, we run adaptive thermal analysis to verify the real solidification behaviour of the iron in real time — controlling every melt before it reaches the mould.

ATAS Thermal Analyzer

Adaptive Thermal Analysis System — cooling-curve process control

The ATAS Thermal Analyzer is a cooling-curve based metallurgical process-control system in our melting quality lab. A small sample of molten iron is poured into a thermocouple cup and its full solidification curve is recorded in real time — revealing the true metallurgical behaviour of every melt before it is poured into moulds. Because consistent chemistry alone does not guarantee a sound casting, thermal analysis measures what the spectrometer cannot: nucleation, graphite precipitation and the dynamics of solidification.

What it does

  • Precise melt chemistry — measures key solidification temperatures (liquidus, eutectic and recalescence) to determine Active Carbon Equivalent, Carbon and Silicon far more accurately than chemical calculation.
  • Nucleation & inoculation control — evaluates the nucleation status of the melt to manage graphite shape, nodularity and eutectic cell count.
  • Defect prediction — flags the risk of micro & macro shrinkage porosity, chill / carbide tendency, inverse chill and dissolved oxygen before the metal is poured.
  • Property assurance — confirms each melt against a proven best-practice "fingerprint" window to keep mechanical properties consistent.

  • Carbon Equivalent accuracy of roughly ±0.01% — about 5–8× better than spectrometer-only chemistry.
  • Results on the foundry floor in minutes, with no wait for lab turnaround.
  • Lower scrap and rejection rates by catching poor melts before they become castings.
  • Proactive inoculation guidance to keep melts chill-free and stable batch after batch.
  • Reduced energy and material cost, and a smaller environmental footprint.
  • Objective, quantified readings that remove operator subjectivity from chill / wedge tests.
